Can you install a TV outside?
Yes, Mounted and More installs outdoor-rated TVs on covered decks and patios from Purgatory to Pagosa. Only an outdoor-rated TV goes outside. We pick a spot out of direct rain and snow, use a weatherproof mount and plan every cable so nothing sits in the weather. Outdoor jobs start with a free estimate.
Why not use an indoor TV outside?
An indoor TV is not built for outdoor conditions. Outdoor-rated TVs have a sealed case that keeps out water and dust, a tougher screen and a listed operating temperature range. Indoor TVs have none of that, and moisture, cold nights and sun shorten their life fast.
When you shop, check two specs:
- Sun rating: full sun, partial sun or full shade
- Operating temperature range: make sure it covers the cold nights at your place, not only summer evenings
Full sun, partial sun or shade: which do I need?
Match the rating to the light your deck gets. Full-sun models have the brightest screens and stay readable in direct sunlight. Partial-sun models fit a pergola or a deck that gets sun part of the day. Full-shade models fit a deep covered porch. We look at where the sun falls through the day before you buy.
Sun is strong in the mountains. UV levels rise with elevation, about 12 percent for every 1,000 meters according to the Hong Kong Observatory, and homes around Forest Lakes sit near 7,500 feet. A covered spot protects the TV, the mount and the cables.
What mount do you use outside?
We use mounts made for outdoor use, with hardware that resists rust. A tilting or full-motion mount helps cut glare and lets you angle the screen toward the seating. On log, stone or timber walls, we anchor into solid material just as we do indoors. Read more on our TV mounting page.
How do you run cables and power outside?
We handle the low-voltage cables: HDMI, network and speaker wire, run through walls or covered routes so nothing hangs loose. Power cords never go inside walls. A new outdoor outlet must have GFCI protection, which shuts off power if current leaks, plus a weatherproof cover that stays closed while plugged in. That is work for a licensed electrician.
Will my Wi-Fi reach the deck?
Often not without help, because log and stone walls block Wi-Fi. A mesh unit near the deck, ideally connected by a network cable, usually fixes it. A wired streaming box at the TV is even better. We check what internet works at your address first. See our smart home and Wi-Fi page.
Can you add outdoor speakers?
Yes. We install weather-rated speakers under eaves or on a covered wall. Look for an IP rating, a two-digit code for dust and water protection; a higher second number means more water protection. See our home audio page for more.
What affects the price of an outdoor TV install?
TV size, wall type, mount type, the length of the cable runs, Wi-Fi work and outdoor speakers move the price most. Outdoor TVs are custom projects with a free estimate. See pricing.
